The International Day of Education celebrates the importance of, and raises awareness on the need for equitable and inclusive quality education.

This year's theme is "Changing Course, Transforming Education," for which a key aspect would be the development, furthering, and integration of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD); since although social movements and green initiatives are one way to push the agenda of sustainability forward, a more concrete and longer term tool would be to drive ESD toward all members of society.

It is not only about being environmentally-friendly; it also involves developing life-skills including leadership, communication and management, all of which are extremely important for personal development. By equipping society with these relevant capabilities in addition to their environmental knowledge, they can excel at living lives which not only further humanity, but that care for and respect our planet’s resources too.
