Forestry Projects
Private Land Owner
Located in a mountain valley close to Moragolla, Kandy, this land area of 2.6 Hectares was chosen by a private landowner to plant trees that would be beneficial to the soil. This area of land is a part of the hill country intermediate zone and was previously a tea plantation and is now a grassland that is generally dry with strong prevailing winds. Due to the dryness, fires are more likely to occur in and around these areas. Over 200 perennial woody trees have already been planted in this enclosure. CCC was retained to restore this degraded land and restore it to its natural state as a home for wildlife and and biodiversity habitat. A detailed and comprehensive process was conducted by the team where a study of the land, introducing around 2000 wind barrier trees such as Gliricidia Sepiumand Kenda (Macarenga Peltata), that also enrich the soil. A fire barrier was maintained around the land by clearing a land area of 15ft length wise. Monitoring and Maintenance was and is an integral part of the project, as the number of trees that need to be planted would depend on the soil and characteristics of the land.
The ‘Hiniduma Bio-Link Project’ in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka is a CSR effort of the Carbon Consulting Company (CCC) to establish a biodiversity corridor between the two large remnant disturbed rainforest patches – Sinharaja (UNESCO World Heritage Site) & Kanneliya (International Man and Biosphere Reserve), and to conserve buffer zones around the forest edges through reforestation. The project has expanded from the Kanneliya forest patch to the Sinharaja forest patch due to the grant given by Patagonia. Under the Patagonia Grant, a total of 4,000 saplings have been planted in 28 farmer lands to cover around 14 acres of the planted area from 2017 to 2019, and another 2,000 saplings will be planted in this year. The main objective of the project is to minimise the threats from the local communities residing adjacent to the pristine forest and restore a forest corridor with native trees between the two forest patches. The project also enhances the livelihoods of these communities living in close proximity to the forest that is rich in biodiversity but is increasingly under threat from logging and human encroachment for predominantly agricultural purposes.

Hirdaramani
The Hirdaramani Group, a company that has integrated sustainability into their Business Strategy supported the Hiniduma Bio-Link Project developed by CCC. The Hiniduma Bio-Link Project was the first internationally verified forestry carbon credit project in Sri Lanka. The aim of the project is to establish a biodiversity corridor between two large remnant disturbed rainforest patches – Sinharaja and Kanneliya. Much of the Sri Lankan rainforest is under threat and has suffered a long history of deforestation and environmental degradation. The Sinharaja Rainforest (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the Kanneliya Rainforest (an international man and biosphere reserve) are the focus of this project. This project has expanded from the Kanneliya forest patch to the Sinharaja forest through the sponsorship of Hirdaramani, as they have planted 3000 saplings in 24 lands to cover 16.1 acres from 2017-2019. A further 1,000 saplings were distributed amongst 17 farmer families to cover another 4.2 acres of planted area under the Hirdaramani grant. In March 2020, the total reached4000 trees spanning 20.3 acres. In each consecutive year, the grant consisted of funding to maintain and replant any casualty trees from this as well as an adjacent project totaling 10,000 trees with one of their key brand partners. The project improves the biodiversity of the region and the lives of rural farmers in local communities.
