The Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa (FMR) is a 176-guest room hotel located on Kuredhigadu (Faruna) Island, North Male Atoll, the Republic of Maldives.
The major source of primary energy is diesel with a small portion of generation also arising from solar energy. Due to the high cost of providing energy on the island, CCC was retained to conduct a detailed Energy Audit for the hotel as part of its energy reduction strategy.
As part of the audit, the CCC team presented a comprehensive report detailing the energy balance of the hotel, highlighting key areas of inefficiency and also provided suggested solutions for energy reduction measures. The report also evaluated energy consumption patterns for the hotel, its energy management / accounting practices, the daily load profiles, and provided a detailed list of opportunities for Energy Performance Indicator improvement.
In addition, the team carried out a comprehensive Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Assessment, and a complete Water Audit of the operations of the hotel to identify several options for reduction in emissions and to increase the efficiency of water usage.
The team established a clear energy baseline and identified clear cases of high-energy usage. Clear recommendations were made on potential energy reduction measures including switching specific air conditioning systems to recommended models that were more efficient, including the replacement of a Heat Pump technology-based AC system to a VRV system with one compressor unit, and the use of an absorption chiller.
A complete GHG Assessment was conducted, encompassing Scope 1, 2 and 3 Emissions. The highest emissions sources were identified and appropriate mitigation/reduction methods were suggested. Where appropriate, the identified emissions were also linked to energy and waste reduction measures.
A comprehensive Water Audit was carried out, with a calculation of the cost of water being done at the same time. The potential of saving over 25,000 litres of water each day were identified and evaluated, and relevant optimisation strategies proposed.
