The Bank operates 96 branches across the country, boasting an ATM network covering 127 locations and 48 Cash Deposit & Withdrawal Machines, plus more than 3,700 ATMs on the LankaPay Network. They are the issuer and sole acquirer for American Express® Cards in Sri Lanka.
The CCC Team carried out a complete GHG audit of 10 branches and 3 offices and presented a comprehensive report detailing the Bank’s carbon emissions, highlighting key areas of inefficiency and providing suggested solutions for emission reduction measures. CCC also provided NTB a specific set of recommendations to further reduce their emissions.
Due to their multi-year commitment, and after the assessment was completed for the 3 offices, the CarbonConscious® Certification was presented to NTB as they had implemented many of the recommendations provided and made a conscious effort to minimize their impact on the environment.
Clear recommendations were made on potential carbon emission reduction measures including switching specific air conditioning systems to recommended models that were more efficient, as well as the installation of occupancy sensors and the continued use of solar power.
A complete Greenhouse Gas Assessment was carried encompassing Scope 1, 2 & 3 Emissions. The highest emission sources were identified and linked to purchased electricity. Compared to the base year of the assessment (2017), the emissions from all the scopes have reduced by 20.26% after the given recommendations were implemented.
Over the past 3 years, the data collection process was mostly manual and due to the higher likelihood of errors and potential inefficiencies, CCC introduced its proprietary Carbon-X GHG data collection system, which enabled them to become effective in their data collection process as daily reminders and a Mobile App were components of the system and thereby, increased the ability to monitor the collection of data with a lower probability of errors.
