Gili Lankanfushi has deservedly continued to be ranked as one of the top resorts in the Maldives, even being recognised as the top hotel in the world in Tripadvisor’s 2015 Traveler’s Choice awards. One of the things that sets this 45-villa resort apart from the rest of its peers is their commitment to sustainability, from their partnership with EarthCheck, a leading tourism certification programme, to the responsible, local sourcing of building material and food, and several energy, carbon and water -efficient initiatives.

Water, Waste, and Energy Audits
To further reduce their costs and focus more on sustainability, Gili conducted Water, Waste and Energy audits.

The Waste Audit analysed the waste of the resort, then highlighted ways to maximise the efficiency of material utilisation for reduction of waste generation, identification of means of reusing waste and implementation of measures for proper disposal.

The Water Audit highlighted areas of inefficient water usage and included recommendations that were given to the resort. This lead to Gili saving them almost 30% of their total water consumption.

The Energy Audit focused on analysis of the premises activities of the resort, which lead to the suggestion of relevant Energy reduction methods. We were able to highlight practices that would result in an estimated 15% saving in energy usage.

Following on the comprehensive assessments done by the our team, Gili Lankanfushi was also able to not only significantly reduce their costs, but also develop a brand new Social Environmental Awareness and Sustainability Policy.
